Project #20: Go Fishing

Siesta Key, FL
I have been fishing several times, but Spencer wanted her own experience, and as it is on her gap year list, we had to do it.

Our friends Campbell and Bart bought squid and shrimp as bait, and Meredith showed Spencer how to cast.

The weather was breezy and the atmosphere was serene, at least that was the case until Meredith caught a not-so-friendly fish.

Toadfish are often caught because they lie on the bottom of the ocean, just waiting for a shrimp or some other morsel to go by. They are reflexive predators and their large mouths don't often miss their target.

They have a full set of teeth in their mouth, which is a place many anglers avoid.

The fish was released and let back into the water.
