My January 2012 Favorites

Oh my, I've probably had four cups of tea every day of January.  I didn't always like tea, and then a few years ago I started drinking chai tea, but now I really love most kinds. My favorites are:

-Twinnings English Breakfast tea (with milk and sugar is great, or just on its own)
- Celestial Seasonings Chai Tea (with a splash of soy milk)

Also, Jammie Dodgers are the British jam-filled sandwich cookies (biscuits) in the picture, and they are in the ethnic foods aisle at the grocery store, and they are so wonderful with tea.

These slippers are from Sam's Club and I love them. Okay I found the website. Here's the link. They were a lot less expensive at Sam's Club. The brand is Dearfoams except maybe all the letters are supposed to be lower case. It seems that way. Their slogan is "make yourself comfortable." In conclusion, check out your local Sam's Club for some Dearfoams slipper boots. Unless you don't have a Sam's Club card (or a Sam's Club near you, for that matter) because that would end up being far too expensive and too much trouble for some very comfortable slippers. I mean, they're great, but I suppose you can find slippers at a variety of locations, or go without completely. What a sad existence, though, to be without slippers.

I read Mindy Kaling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns), this month, and I thought it was really great. She's the one who plays Kelly on The Office. She also writes for the show. This was the perfect book to read at the beach or in a waiting room or somewhere else where you only have a little bit of time to do something, but too much time to do nothing. Was that confusing? The fun thing about this book is that you really feel like you're listening to your hilarious best friend tell stories while your reading it. I laughed out loud when I was alone in a public place many times because of this book.

Okay, Drake is so good. I never really listened to rap music, but I never really knew enough music. During my gap year, I've been actively trying to expand my musical horizons. Drake is one of my favorite new finds. His lyrics are beautiful because they are honest and only sometimes a little bit offensive. Look What You've Done is one of my favorites of his songs. Also, I really like Take Care and We'll Be Fine. So exciting.

This month, I've been playing guitar a lot more than usual. I've been trying to learn some more covers, because it's a good way to help me learn some new chords for writing my own songs. This month, I learned Heartbeat by The Fray, You Already Know by Train, and Ghost Town by First Aid Kit.

Rose Salve from C. O. Bigelow is my favorite lip balm of the moment. It smells like roses, and when I put it on my lips, I rub the leftover lip balm on my cuticles because it's a multipurpose product. For my family's first annual winter time gift exchange, my sister, Cody, gave me Wonderstruck, Taylor Swift's new perfume. I really like it a lot. It smells sweet and sort of fruity and not really musky at all. The rollerball version is very handy to keep in my purse, and it has pretty packaging.

My mom used to put on hand lotion every time she washed her hands, and I thought it was a silly and unnecessary ritual, and now, I put on hand lotion every time I wash my hands. Because I use it so frequently, I go through hand lotions fairly quickly. It has given me a chance to try a lot of different kinds of hand cream to choose favorites. I used to like to keep a scented hand cream in my purse, but lately I've found it to be too overwhelming to flood the air around me with the strong scents of eucalyptus and spearmint six times a day. For this reason, this month, I've been using an unscented hand cream by Philosophy called Hands of Hope. It's really moisturizing and it's also a cuticle cream, so you only need a little bit at a time.

I got this beautiful leather journal from inblue on Etsy. It says "not all who wander are lost" on it which is one of my favorite quotes, and it has a picture of a compass, and my initials. It's pretty small so it fits easily in my purse, and the best part about it is that the journal inside can be removed and replaced, so you can keep using the journal after you fill it up. Inblue makes some really cool stuff, and I highly recommend it.

My January has been good and I think the rest of 2012 will be even better. I hope yours is, too.
